Task 2b

There are many immigrants in the world today, it can be a lot of different reasons why people become immigrants, it can be because they don’t have any place to work or a hard time getting a job, or just so they can start over. Still being an immigrant isn’t easy, some immigrants have several jobs, and they can still not get enough money to pay the bills and support their families. They can also face problems with cultures, values and many more. It has been made alot of movies and short stories that can tell us about this, However i watched the movie ‘’The Reluctant Fundamentalist’’ and read an extract from the novel Honour by Elif Shafak. I want to explain and write about these two.

Honour
In the extract of the novel Honour. The main clue we get is the nameplate. About a girl who gets annoyed because her name isn’t written on the nameplate, but at the same time she doesnt want to be written on the nameplate because she doesn’t think anyone lives there.

‘’‘We live here as well,’ she grumbled. ‘Why write only Dad’s name?’
Esma was a frail girl but she always expressed herself with giant ideas: equal
opportunity, social justice, women’s rights … My friends thought she was either barmy or a Communist. If it were up to her she would have written instead:
THE TOPRAK FAMILY-
Or else, ADEM, PEMBE, ISKENDER, ESMA, YUNUS & THE GOLDFISH
Either way I didn’t give a toss. I, myself, would have left the nameplate
anonymous. That would have been more decent, more straightforward. It would be my
way of saying nobody lived here. Not really. We didn’t live in this flat, only sojourned.’’ (Honour, Shafak)

The protagonist wants to leave the nameplane anonymous because she thinks that they doesnt live there. just a place to stay for a little while. , ‘’but people like us
would always be outsiders. We Topraks were only passers-by in this city – a half-Turkish, half-Kurdish family in the wrong end of London.’’ these senteces give me an idea of how Iskendar Toprak thinks about being an immigrant, that she doesnt fit in, people look at her another way than what they do to normal citizents. I feel that this can be a big problem for alot of immigrant, having the feeling that they are not accepted for who they really are.

The Reluctant Fundamentalist
The movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist is kinda the same as the extract Honour, The main characther in this movie is called Changez. Changez had a great job in America, He was a respected man in America. That was before 9/11. Changez started to notice a different public treathment. People became more aware of the Islamic immigrants. It is one time in the movie were we can see that the public treathment is changed. after he was done at a meeting he went to his car, were there had been someone who had punctured his car. another example is when he was on a buisness trip with his colleagues and he gets stopped by the police, and only him. This would never happened before 9/11.

Comparing Honour and the movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist, I think that these
two shows us that they don’t want to be treated different just because of their culture or because of what they believe in. These can also tell us that it can be hard to be an immigrant.

Football Transfers

TRANFERS IN FOOTBALL

The Transfer market is a huge part of  football today. Transition windows are the periods of the year where the clubs are allowed to buy new players from other clubs. Clubs can make deals on transfers during other periods of the year.
The system has been used in many leagues before FIFA made it mandatory in 2002. FIFA decided that there would be two Transition windows, one longer between seasons and another one after a half played season. The FA decides for each league when the dates is for the Transition windows. It is different times of the year for different leagues, in Norway it is between 1 January and 15. April and in England it’s between 1.July and 31. August. This can be different for all leagues.

Money Difference

There is a huge difference in football when it comes to money, let us take an example, Real Madrid is the most expensive club in the world. Real Madrid is worth 3,4 billion dollars as a club. They earn 710 million on match day, 1124 million on broadcast, 484 million on brand and 1122 million on commercials.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_football_transfer_record

Let’s take a look at SK Brann. This is a Norwegian football club, they only made 10 million NOK (Norwegian kroner) which is 1,24 million dollar a year. To compare this to Real Madrid this is the same Real Madrid made on broadcast. There can be many different reasons for this huge difference. Real Madrid had won a lot of cups and different competition. That is a huge place to earn money for the football clubs. Real Madrid also plays in a bigger place; they play in Spain which is gigantic compared to Norway, this means more fans and spectators. They also have a much bigger audience that Real Madrid can sell effect to. These reasons are the ones that I think make the biggest difference.

Sponsors

Sponsors in football is a huge thing. There are different types of sponsors. They can sponsor clubs with money, cars, clothes and so much more. Sponsors are one of the biggest income for a club. The sponsors often make a big club play with their jerseys so they have their mark on the football shirt. Chevrolet made a deal with Manchester United FC that if they would play with their jerseys they would receive 70 million dollar and all of the United players would receive a free Chevrolet car

This is not the only way they advertise for their brand, they also put up banners around the football field. Therefore, when the TV producers film the football field they will also film the advertisement and this is a huge plus for the sponsors. Some players even have private sponsors. An example is Cristiano Ronaldo, he plays for Real Madrid and he is the best football player in the world. He has Nike as a private sponsor, this means that he design  his own shoes and clothes, and Nike sells them with
his name on. This tells us how important and luxury sponsors can be.

Biggest Transfers

The biggest transfer of all time is the transfer of Gareth Bale; he went from an English club called Tottenham to Real Madrid for around 100 million dollars! there is a huge difference between the transfers now and earlier. In 1928 they made a transfer of a player called David Jack, he played for a club called Bolton. The English club called Arsenal was the club that wanted to sign him. Arsenal was supposed to pay 14 thousand dollar. But the manager of Arsenal got the Bolton representatives drunk and Arsenal ended up paying 10 thousand dollar. This was the biggest transfer of all time. And now the clubs pay around 30-50 million dollars in a normal transfer! Money has become a much bigger part of football today.

The top 10 transfer fees of all time (1 Pound = 11 NOK)
1. Gareth Bale. Tottenham to Real Madrid = 86 million pounds
2. Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United to Real Madrid = 80 million pounds
3. Luis Suarez. Liverpool to Barcelona = 75 million pounds
4. Neymar. Santos to Barcelona = 71,5 million pounds
5. James Rodriguez. Monaco to Real Madrid = 63 million punds
6. Angel di Maria. Real madrid to Manchester United = 59.7 million pounds
7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Inter Milan to Barcelona = 59 million pounds
8. Kaka. AC Milan to Real Madrid = 56 million pounds
9. Edinsons Cavani. Napoli to PSG = 55 million pounds
10. Radamel Falcao. Atletico Madrid to Monaco = 51 million pound

Step by step transfers

There are about 9 steps to make a transfer. These steps go from Scouting to signing.
1. The scouting
The club that is looking for a new player starts to scout. They scout for the players that can fit their team the best, they scout for players all over the world. They use a program called Scout7. This program contains a huge database of players from all over the world. Scout7 can tell you good and bad things about a player, in game analyses, footage of playtime and much more. This has become a crucial thing for scouting.

2. The bid
Once the player has been identified, the next step is to place a bid on a player. This is pretty much straightforward.

3. Tapping up?
Premier League rules state that ‘’ a player under contract shall not directly or indirectly make any approach to another club without having obtained the prior written consent of the existing club to who he is contracted.’’ This means that all transfer deals should be started from scratch.

4. The negotiation
In the negotiation, they negotiate about the player’s contract and their transfer fee. They basically slide paper to each other saying that they want a bigger amount of money for their player, or that the player wants another salary per month or another contract.

5. The players’ dilemma
The players often have dilemmas about moving to another club. They might not like the points in the contract, maybe they want guaranteed playtime or they don’t like the trainer. Some even have to move to play for their new club, and this might cause problems for the rest of the family.

6. The agents
The agents are a really important part of the game. The agents can be used by clubs to identify player, or to find new clubs for the players that they are trying to sell. The agents often have a huge network of connection making these steps much easier.

7. The media
This is really much a love-hate relationship. They love it because the stories keep them knee-deep in copy, but hate it because sifting through the garbage is an arduous and often disheartening process. The media spreads many rumours about the transfer market. If they get their little smelly nose on something, they publish it right away on the internet or in newspapers. This makes us curious. But you have to be aware, really often these rumours are not real.

8. The medical and the work permit
The final part of the deal is the medical test and, for some players, the work permit. The medical test is a test that the clubs make before they close the deal. In this test they make sure that the player doesn’t have any injures or problems. This is a really important part of the deal, they have to be sure that the player that they are buying is fit to play and doesn’t carry any form of injures.

The work permit is also another important part of the deal. A football player has the same rules as another job, he got to have permission to work in that country that he is going to play in. If not, they have to fix it or, he can’t play for that club.

9. DONE DEAL!
And there you have it.
When all these parts are done, the player is ready to move to his new club. The only part that remains is the moving of the player, and of course the obligatory smiling photo of the player with his new manager, and his new club’s shirt.

Fun Facts about football

-     In 2013, football player Cristiano Ronaldo opened a museum dedicated to himself.

-   More than 1 in 20 football injuries are caused by celebrating goals on the pitch.

-     On average, football players run as far as 9.5 miles in a single match. This is the           same as running to Norheimsund from Øystese 3 times in 90 minutes.

-   FIFA has more member countries than the United Nations

-   149-0 is the highest score ever made in a football game, this is a goal per 36                    seconds.

3B) Jenny and John has two different ways trying to change the world. John wants to change the world through the force of example, while Jenny wants to change it through a protest. I think protest is the most effective way but it can also lead to violence, but as Jenny said: ‘’The most important changes in American history had been achieved by people making a lot of noise’’. Like the fight for women’s right and the civil rights movements.

English is more than just global English

There are many varies of English in the world today, English is not just English as a world language. English can be different dialects from all over the world. The most known English is American English, British English and Australian English. However, in this entry, I am going to write a little bit about; Singapore English, Hinglish that is Indian English and Franglais, which is French English.

Singapore English

The standard Singapore English is the standard form of English used in Singapore. Moreover, it is often used in work or when communicating with people of higher authority. The Singaporean accent has different influences. The American influence, some grammar rules are derived from American English. American pronunciation of certain words also tend to be more prevalent in Singapore. Malay, Indian and Chinese is mainly influenced by British English and American English.

Hinglish

The Hinglish, the Hinglish is a dialect from the Indian English. They are changing up things in the sentences. The Hinglish is a code-switching language. Here are some examples:- Airdash = Going somewhere in a hurry- Stadium = A bald man with a fringe of hair- Glassy = Wanting a drink- Timepass = A distraction to pass the time

Hinglish is also the way English is pronounced by people speaking Hindi.
Franglais

Examples of Hinglish:
- Juo = you
- pphunny = funny
- pphor = for
- iskool = school

Franglais

Franglais or Frenglish is a mix of French and English. In English, Franglais means a mangled combination of English and French, produced either by poor knowledge of one or the other language. Franglais usually consists of filling in gaps in one’s knowledge of French with English words. Examples of Franglais:
- Longtemps, pas voir = Long time, no see
- Je ne care pas = I don't care.
- Je suis tired = I am tired

Here is a clip from a movie named Pink Panter, and its about a French person trying to learn American English accent.

FIXING THE SYSTEM

President Obama is Taking Action on Immigration

a) What is he going to do?

Obama is going to fix America’s immigration system.  Obama is taking leading action to fix what he can, to help the system

b) How can he do this without Congress's blessing?

- President Obama is using his executive authority to address as much of the problem as he can, and why he’ll continue to work with Congress to pass comprehensive reform.

c) What is an American according to Obama?

- He think that America is a nation of immigrants. being an American is more than what they look like or what their last name is, what makes us Americans is our shared commitment to an idea, that all of us are created equal. And all have the chance to make their life's like they want to have it.

e) What is your stand to the issue, do you think Congress will pass the bill soon? Give reasons for your opinion.

- Yes, I agree with Obama, a lot of immigrant has a hard time to come to America. And they also have a hard time getting money, jobs and maybe even a place to live. A lot of immigrants brakes the law, to help them self and to help their kids or grandkids. And this is something we have to change.

So I think that the congress will pass the bill, because they will understand Obama. And see that Obama is right.

Summary

- The immigrant is talking about different ways they have discovered immigration, when they first moved to America, the good and the bad. They are talking about how immigration makes America great. They cannot miss out of the Talents, a lot of immigrants does a great job. They are the ones that discoverd websites like Google and Ebay. A conclusion is that not only that the immigrants are thankful for letting America come to their country, but also the Americans are thankful for the immigrants.

JIMMY CARTEROctober 27, 1976
Quote - Jimmy Carter

“We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams. ”

I like this quote because it tells us that we dont have to be all the same, different vearings, different hope and different dreams doesn't mather. All togheter makes it unique. One for all and all for one!
